This past week a few different friends who live elsewhere, sent me links to the Jay-Z/Alicia Keys song Empire State of Mind. They each said that they think of me when they hear it and that made me feel great. Of course I hear it everywhere in the city. I often sing it to myself as I walk up Sixth Avenue in the morning to get psyched for the day. New York may not be as hard as it was in the 70’s and early 80’s but it’s still tough and demands a lot. Still, the rewards are great and I’m pretty in love with the place.
So when we had an assignment in our Digital Media class to do a New York scene using Adobe Illustrator I knew that this song would be the subject. I eventually used both Photoshop and Illustrator (and a lot of hand drawing of course) for the finished product.
Hopefully I captured some of the grit and the glitz that make NYC great. Whether you’re in the Big Apple or Lehi, Utah, I hope you’re pursuing you’re dreams in true New York Style:)
